For a brief period of time early in the game, it looked as if the Todd County Central Rebels’ winning streak was in trouble against the Green County Dragons. The Dragons had scored the first six points of the game, holding the Rebels scoreless for nearly the first six minutes. The Rebels were having trouble with the tightly-packed 1-3-1 zone the Dragons were playing, in an effort to limit the impact of Jamison Glass on the game.
Things just appeared to be setting up for a troublesome night for the Rebels.
However, the Rebels finished the first quarter on an 8-2 run to even things up and then opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take control of the game on the way to a 58-48 win over the Dragons for their ninth straight win.
The Rebels got back in the contest in the first half despite foul trouble for sophomore big man Jamison Glass, who scored only three-point in the opening half. Preston Moore and Mareke Johnson helped get Todd Central back on track. The Rebels would get to the lead and then take a 21-18 lead at the half.
A night after he scored 24 points in a win over Montgomery Central, Jamison Glass became a big factor in the second half. It was that increased involvement that sparked the 9-0 run to open the second half, giving the Rebels a 30-18 lead. The lead would be 40-28 when the third quarter came to an end.
Green County would make one last push to get back in the game, and the Dragons would get as close as seven points in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as the Rebels’ defense would allow. The Rebels were able to hold the margin around double figures despite some carelessness with the ball on the offensive end of the court.
Mareke Johnson paced the Todd Central attack with 18 points. Jamison Glass finished with 14, eleven of them coming in the second half. Preston Moore chipped in with 13 points for the Rebels.
Green County was led by Hayden Blakeman with 14 points. Jayden Marr finished the game with 13 points for the Dragons.
With the win, which was the second 10-point win over Green County in eight days, Todd Central goes to 10-1 on the year. The Rebels will take on Edmonson County Wednesday night in the final game of the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic.
