The Todd County Central Rebels were slow out of the gate on Wednesday in the Zaxby’s Christmas Classic and they paid for it with a 56-43 loss to Edmonson County.
The Rebels see a nine-game winning run come to an end at the hands of the Wildcats, the third time the two teams have met in twelve days. A fourth matchup is scheduled for January 25th at Edmonson County.
Playing without second-leading scorer Preston Moore, the Rebels found themselves trailing 8-0 before Jacob Brandon knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Rebels on the board.
Todd Central’s Hayden Strader came off the bench and buried a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute, and the Rebels were behind 14-9 after the 1st quarter.
Jamison Glass put up six points in the 2nd quarter, with his putback of his own miss giving the Rebels their first lead at 18-17. The Wildcats scored the next five, but Trayvon Foster nailed a 3 to pull the Rebels to within a point at the halftime break.
A putback by Glass inside the first minute of the 2nd half once again gave the Rebels the advantage, but it would be their last lead of the game. Edmonson County led by as many as eight and took a six-point edge to the 4th quarter.
The Wildcats took their first double-digit lead at 42-32 with 5:11 to play. The Rebels got as close as seven after five-straight points for Perez Whitlock, but they wouldn’t score again over the final minute and a half.
