Heritage Christian Academy finished in fourth place at a pared-down Kentucky Christian Athletic Conference Girls’ State Basketball Tournament over the weekend in Louisville.
The tournament originally had seven teams but three dropped out due to Covid protocols. That meant teams were re-seeded, and HCA was paired against top seed Whitefield Academy. The Lady Warriors dropped a 60-4 decision to Whitefield in the opener.
In the third place game, HCA had its chances but missed seven fourth quarter free throws and fell to Highlands Latin 28-21.
Trailing 21-16 heading into the final quarter, HCA got to within 22-21 on a free throw and bucket by Tori Sutton with 3:28 left.
But it would be their last points. Highlands Latin scored five points in the final minute to increase the margin to seven.
Sutton led HCA with eight points and 12 rebounds. Bailey Craft added seven points and nine boards. Both Sutton and Craft were named to the KCAC All-Tournament Team
HCA returns to action Tuesday night at Northside Baptist in Mayfield.
