Trigg County rallied to overtake Lyon County and then had to hold off a late Lady Lyon flurry to claim a 48-46 district win Monday at Wildcat Gym.

Marleigh Reynolds and Olivia Noffsinger combined to score 34 of Trigg County’s first 38 points, but it was the next six points that decided the game.

Kara Hyde and Tajah Grubbs hit 3-pointers on consecutive trips to extend Trigg’s lead to seven. Then Marleigh Reynolds’ stick back on a missed free throw jumped the lead to nine points with 1:25 left.

Lilly Perry and Piper Cotham hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut Trigg’s lead to 46-43 with 28 seconds left. Audrey Alexander hit one of two free throws to put Trigg ahead 47-43. Perry countered with another 3-pointer to cut the lead to 47-46 with 11 seconds left.

After a Lyon timeout, Trigg turned the ball over. Cotham came up with the steal but missed a tough shot outside the lane. Noffsinger grabbed the rebound with a second left and hit one of two free throws for the final margin.

Fortunes changed in the third quarter as Trigg hit 7 of 15 shots from the field while Lyon struggled and missed 15 of 18. Lyon’s 26-18 halftime lead morphed into a 36-32 Trigg lead after three.

Lyon lost despite taking 25 more shots thanks to 20 offensive rebounds. The Lady Lyons had 15 second-chance points.
