Matt McGowan wanted a chance to see what next year’s expected lineup would look like on the floor this year. The Heritage Christian Academy coach saw his five starting juniors score 20 points in HCA’s 51-31 win over Foundation Christian Thursday at Warrior Gym.
Heritage Christian, who was granted membership to the KHSAA over the summer, improved to 6-5 against KHSAA competition with its win over the Falcons, who finish its KHSAA probationary period this year.
Jason Leek’s field goal with 4:25 left gave HCA an 8-0 lead out of the gate. After a Foundation bucket, the Warriors answered with a 16-0 run to take a commanding 24-2 lead midway through the second quarter.
HCA led 27-11 at halftime, and McGowan was able to use his bench extensively in the second half.
Foundation never quit as they outscored HCA 13-11 in the fourth quarter to get to within the final 20-point margin.
Jason Leek was one of 11 Warriors to score and led the way with 10 points. Weston Powell scored eight points, and Landen Wells added six points.
Heritage Christian improved to 16-5 and will return to KCAA play Saturday against Lakeside at Warrior Gym.
