
The difference between Christian County’s play in the second half compared to the first against Trigg County Friday was like night and day. Or more like NeVaeh Day.
The Lady Colonel freshman had 10 points and 13 rebounds in a decisive second half as Christian County defeated the Lady Wildcats 45-28 at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium. The win was Christian County’s 11th straight over Trigg County, and they lead the all-time series 29-4.
The Lady Colonels were playing their second straight game without senior and leading scorer Makayah Killebrew who is nursing an injury.
Christian County led 11-8 after one quarter, but Trigg County out scored the Lady Colonels 10-5 in the second to lead 18-16 at halftime. During the intermission, Lady Colonel coach Kiki Radford challenged her freshman forward Day, who was scoreless with one rebound at the break.
Day responded with six of Christian County‘s first 10 points of the second half as the Lady Colonels broke the game open with a 12-0 run to begin the third quarter. Trigg County missed 12 of their 13 shots from the field in the third quarter and was outscored 18-3.
It didn’t get much better in the fourth quarter as the Lady Wildcats were 3 of 13 from the field and one of six from the free throw line.
Day finished the game with 10 points 14 rebounds. Anaysia Bagwell led the Lady Colonels with 15 points before leaving the game in the second half with a leg injury. Destinee Catlett-Watkins scored seven points and pulled down 13 rebounds. The Lady Colonels outrebound Trigg County 49-41 which included 20 offensive rebounds.
Trigg County was bothered by Christian County‘s defense most of the night, turning the basketball over 20 times which led to 19 Lady Colonel points. Marleigh Reynolds scored 17 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Olivia Noffsinger added seven points as only four Lady Wildcats scored.
Trigg finish the game 9 of 44 from the field for 20% and missed 19 of their 20 3-point attempts.
Christian County will host Hopkins County Central Saturday, while Trigg county will travel to Paducah Tilghman Monday.
