Calloway County Stuns Lady Lyons Late

It will be one of those losses that will sting for a while. After leading most of the night on the road at Calloway County, the Lyon County Lady Lyons saw the Lady Lakers score seven points over the final 32 seconds to sneak away with a 53-47 win.

Lyon County was up 47-46 when junior Addi Schumacher nailed a three to put Calloway County up 49-46. After a Calista Collins miss, the Lady Lyons were forced to foul. Madison Futrell made a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left and another pair with 8 seconds left to seal the win for Calloway County.

Both teams struggled to get their offense going at the beginning of the game. The first quarter would end with the game even at 6-6

The pace would pick up somewhat in the second. Lyon County would put up twenty points in the quarter as the Lady Lyons took a 26-20 lead into the break.

However, the Lady Lakers would not allow the Lady Lyons to pull away as the second half got started. Calloway County battled back to cut the lead to two as the game moved into the final eight minutes, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Rose Smith finished as the leading scorer for Lyon County with 13 points. Calista Collins added nine, while Ella Defew ended up with 8 points.

Madison Futrell led all scorers in the game, finishing with 18 points for the Lady Lakers. 8th grader Sayler Lowe had a big night with 16.

The loss, which was the second straight for the Lady Lyons, drops Lyon County to 14-13 on the year. The Lady Lyons will close out the regular season Thursday when they host Paducah Tilghman.
