Lady Colonels Pull Away From UHA 61-32

In a preview of next week’s 8th-District tournament matchup, the Christian County Lady Colonels used a huge 3rd quarter to pull away from visiting University Heights for a 61-32 victory on Wednesday.

The 2nd-seeded Lady Colonels earn their second win over UHA to improve to 11-16, 4-2 in district play.  The Lady Blazers slip to 4-19 and will be the three seed in next week’s tournament.

Breanna Daniel opened the game with a 3-pointer for the Lady Blazers, but Christian County scored the next 14 points behind a pair of 3s and eight points for Destinee Catlett-Watkins.  Daniel closed the 1st quarter with a jumper and UHA trailed 14-5.

Daniel knocked down two more 3-pointers in the 2nd and the Lady Blazers were within six points with just over three minutes to play in the half.  However, Christian County closed on a 5-0 run, including a steal and layup by Evanna McGregor just ahead of the halftime buzzer.

The Lady Colonels opened the 2nd half on a 15-3 run to put the game away.  Anaysia Bagwell scored 11, Mikayah Killebrew added eight, and Catlett-Watkins drilled a 3-pointer to close the 3rd quarter and trigger the running clock.

Catlett-Watkins led all scorers with 18, followed by Bagwell with 15, and Killebrew with 10.

Daniel’s 14 led the Lady Blazers and Alicia Davis finished with 11.
