On a day where one Lyon joined an exclusive club, the Lyon County Lyons closed out a big regular season with a road win north of the Ohio River. Travis Perry racked up 37 points as the Lyons picked up a win Saturday afternoon at Evansville Reitz.
Perry’s 37 points move him to 2986 for his career, leaving him a good chance at joining the 3000 point club in the Lyons’ opening 5th District tournament game against Livingston Central.
Speaking of point clubs, with a basket in the waning seconds of the Lyon County win, senior Jackson Shoulders hit the 2000 point mark for his career, becoming the 4th player at the school to reach the mark and the second on the current edition of the Lyons to do so. Shoulders also has more than 1200 rebounds in his career, making him the only player in Lyon County basketball history to accomplish both feats.
As for the rest of the game, Lyon County took the early lead in the game, leading 21-14 after the opening quarter. Reitz would cut into the lead and go into the locker room trailing 40-35.
Coming out for the second half, Reitz continued their effort to get back in the game. By the end of the third, the lead was a tenuous one point at 50-49.
Travis Perry and Jackson Shoulders then stepped up and took over coming down the stretch as the Lyons pulled back out to the nine-point win.
The Lyons played the game without Brady Shoulders, who was injured in a hard fall during Lyon County’s Friday night win over Hopkins County Central.
Travis Perry had a huge night for the Lyons with 37 points. Jackson Shoulders added 18. Jack Reddick finished with 8.
Koston McReynolds was the top scorer for Reitz with 25 points.
With the win, Lyon County ends the regular season at 23-6. They have won their last four and ten of their last eleven since losing to Breathitt County in the All A Classic. Five of the Lyons’ losses have come by a total of just 25 points.
The Lyons open postseason play Tuesday night at 6pm when they take on Livingston Central at Crittenden County in the semifinals of the 5th District tournament.
