After struggling to score runs a big part of the 2021 season, the Christian County Colonels have opened the 2022 baseball season putting them up in bunches. The Colonels scored 14 runs in their final three at-bats and then held on tight in the bottom of the 7th inning to pick up a 14-11 road win at Allen County-Scottsville Thursday night.

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead when Brayden Calvert connected for an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. The lead would grow to 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th as Thorny Walker doubled and then scored on a Christian County error.

Christian County then took control of the game, erupting for seven runs in the top of the 5th inning. The big blows were RBI doubles from Brylle Javier and Jacob Jenkins. The Colonels added a run in the top of the 6th when Carter Sholar doubled and then scored on a ground out.

Just when it looked like the Colonels were about to put the game away, Allen County-Scottsville came charging back. The first four batters all reached base in the bottom of the 6th and that was the catalyst for a five-run inning that cut the lead to 8-7 headed into the final inning.

The Christian County offense then got ramped up again and hung six runs on the board in the seventh. Once again, the damage was done with two outs in the inning. Carter Sholar, Elijah Underhill, and Josh Snorton all had big hits during the rally.

The Patriots would cut the lead to 14-11 in the bottom of the 7th on a pair of two-run doubles, but that would be as close as they would get as Christian County held on for its third straight win to open the season.

Josh Snorton was 3-4 with an RBI for Christian County. Elijah Underhill finished 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jacob Jenkins finished 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Carter Sholar was 2-5 with a double and an RBI.

Lane Gamble got the win on the mound for Christian County. He went five innings, giving up six runs, only four of them earned, on 9 hits, striking out two while walking one.
