The Russellville Lady Panthers picked up their 14th win of the season and second of the week Tuesday night as they cruised past the Todd Central Lady Rebels 14-4. The win gives Russellville a sweep of the regular-season series between the two teams.
Russellville scored in each of their first three at-bats as they bolted out to a 10-0 lead. The Lady Panthers took advantage of three singles, two walks, and a Lady Rebel error to score four times in the bottom of the first inning. Russellville’s A’Miyah Collier homered to centerfield in the second to extend the lead to 5-0.
A grand slam from Ja’eda Poindexter was the big hit in a five-run inning in the bottom of the third that pushed the Lady Panther lead out to 10-0.
The Lady Rebels tried to fight their way back into the game in the top of the fourth as they came up with four runs to cut the lead to 10-4. Sam Case, Abigail McPherson, and Lucy Cumbee all had hits to drive in runs in the inning.
But that would be the end of the threat for the Lady Rebels, and Russellville would then score four runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to close out the game.
Abby Williams, Abigail McPherson, Sam Case, Lucy Cumbee, and Naomi Gammon, each had one hit for Todd County Central. Case, McPherson, Gammon, and Cumbee had one RBI apiece.
Abigail McPherson was charged with the loss in the circle for the Lady Rebels. She gave up 10 runs, but due to fielding issues that found the Lady Rebels charged with three errors, only two of those runs were earned.
The loss drops the Lady Rebels to 11-9 on the year. They are set to be on the road at University Heights Thursday night.
