Four early game errors were a bit much for the Lyon County Lady Lyons to overcome Friday night. The Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces scored in each of their first three at-bats, including five runs in the bottom of the third as they picked up a 9-6 win in the Owensboro Catholic Classic.

The win was the second for the Lady Aces over the Lady Lyons in the past week. Catholic knocked off Lyon County in the semifinals of the All A Classic state softball tournament Sunday afternoon at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro.

Lyon County took the early lead in the game when Calista Collins walked to lead off the game and then later scored on a steal of home to put the Lady Lyons up 1-0 after half an inning.

A Lyon County miscue helped the Lady Aces tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning. O-Cath added three runs in the bottom of the second to extend the lead to 4-1. The big hit was a two-run double from Lilli Grant.

The Lady Lyons came back to cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the third. Calista Collins was intentionally walked to start the inning. She would later score on a Catholic error after a hit from Hadlie Butler. Butler would then score on an RBI single from Jenna Coursey.

The Lady Aces then took firm control in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff ground out, eight of the next nine batters for Catholic reached base as the lead grew to 9-3 by the time the inning ended.

Lyon County cut into the lead in the top of the sixth. After walking her in her first two at-bats of the night, Owensboro Catholic got a pitch a bit took close to where Calista Collins likes it in her fourth trip to the plate and she planted a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it 9-5. Hadlie Butler followed that with a double and then scored on a sac fly to make it 9-6.

Lyon County would load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate with two outs in the inning but could not push across any more runs and the game was called due to time limit rules of the event.

Hadlie Butler, Jenna Coursey, and Emma West all had two hits in the game for Lyon County. Calista Collins ended up 1-2 with a home run, 2 RBIs, three runs scored and two walks.

Lilly Perry took the loss for the Lady Lyons, giving up nine runs, only six of them earned due to four Lady Lyon errors. She struck out three and walked six.

Lyon County is back in action in the Owensboro Catholic Classic Saturday when they take on Owensboro and Hancock County.
