The Caldwell County Lady Tiger softball team was held to just one base hit in a 3-0 setback at Massac County, Ill., on Thursday.

It was just the fourth meeting ever between the two schools in softball — and the Lady Patriots have won all four.

Laney Jones had an infield single leading off the top of the sixth inning for Caldwell’s only hit.

Massac scored once in each of the first, second and sixth innings. The Lady Patriots had 10 base hits.

Illysa Stallins returned to the pitching circle for Caldwell for the first time in four weeks after a knee injury. She allowed two earned runs while striking out three and walking one.

The Lady Tigers are now 13-11 while Massac improved to 16-6.

Caldwell was originally scheduled to host Lyon County on Thursday, but quickly added Massac County when the Lady Lyons were forced to cancel.

Caldwell’s girls are scheduled to finish the regular season at home Friday against Todd County Central from the 4th Region.

The Lady Rebels are 16-12 this season. That includes a 4-2 win over Caldwell in Elkton early in the season. The all-time series is even at four wins apiece.

Caldwell then hosts the 7th District softball tournament next week. The Lady Tigers will play Hopkins County Central in Monday’s semifinals at Lady Tiger Field.
