Butts’ 4 RBI Night Sends Caldwell Past Murray 12-2

The Caldwell County softball team only needed six innings on Monday to extend its winning streak to three games, using a pair of four-run innings to cruise to a 12-2 victory over hosts Murray High.

With Murray leading 1-0 in the bottom half of the first on Jenna Stone’s RBI single, Caldwell responded with a two-run single by Nyla Sykes to take the lead for good.  Brylee Butts got started on a big night at the plate with a double to drive in two for a 4-1 Caldwell advantage.

Shia McNutt led off the Murray second with a triple and came home on Amya Brown’s bunt single, but the 1st-Region’s Lady Tigers wouldn’t score again over the final four frames.

Daelen Kizzee’s RBI single highlighted Caldwell’s three-run third, and Alexis Wood exited the circle after allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts over four innings.

Butts’ smacked a two-run home run to left and Maci Tyler singled to drive in a pair of runs to make it 11-2 after five.  The Lady Tigers used a pair of walks to put two on in the top of the sixth, and Kizzee came home on a wild pitch for the final run.

Wood earned her 11th win of the season in the circle, surrendering a pair of earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.  Jackie Farmer pitched the final two frames, scattering a pair of hits.

Mackenzie Toliver took the loss for Murray, giving up 11 runs, ten earned, on 11 hits with six walks and two strikeouts.  The Lady Tigers slipped to 9-17 with their fourth loss in five outings.

Adley Lewis finished with three hits for Caldwell, and Tyler, Carlee Palm, and Kizzee each hit safely twice.  The Lady Tigers improved to 16-12 ahead of a visit from Muhlenberg County on Tuesday.
