Trigg County will still have a Burgett as a head coach but next season it will be Mason who replaces his father Chad on the bench.

Mason Burgett was introduced as the next Wildcat head coach Friday afternoon at the school.

Mason has served as an assistant coach under his father Chad for the past three seasons.  Chad retired from coaching and teaching earlier this year after leading the Wildcats to a 33-44 record in three seasons.  Trigg County 14-14 in the 2021-22 season, losing to Crittenden County in the district semifinals.

Trigg graduates three starters but has a stable of guards slated to return in 2022-23, led by Jhaden Vaughn who led Trigg in both scoring and rebounding as a sophomore.

Burgett said his familiarity with the team will help during his transition to coach and is in the process of putting together a staff. At 23, he will become one of the youngest, if not the youngest, head coaches in the state.

He takes over a program that hasn’t advanced to the region tournament since 2016 – the longest streak for the school since the early 1990s.
