Team Sugar and Spice Still in Contention in Michigan

Team Sugar and Spice was tied for first place for a brief period during second round action Thursday at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in Midland, Mich.

Emma Talley and Jodi Ewart Shadoff had to settle for a 6-under-par round of 64, which put them at 10-under through 36 holes and in a five-way tie for third place in the LPGA Tour team event at Midland Country Club.

In best ball action Thursday, Talley and Ewart Shadoff got off to a hot start with birdies on four of their first seven holes.

Talley finished with three birdies in the second round while Ewart Shadoff had five birdies Thursday

Talley and Ewart Shadoff are now four shots behind the leaders, Pauline Roussin and Dewi Weber.

Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas are in second place at 11-under before the logjam at 10-under.

Team Sugar and Spice had opened the event with a 66 in alternate shot play on Wednesday.

The teams will play alternate shot again on Friday before finishing Saturday with better ball.

Team Sugar and Spice have an 11:33 a.m. Eastern tee time on Friday.

This week’s event is scheduled to end Saturday so players can get a jump on their trip to France next week for the fourth major of the year at the Evian Championship.

That will start the European portion of the LPGA Tour schedule, which includes the Women’s British Open Aug. 4-7 at Muirfield.
