PREVIEW – Lady Wildcats Continuing Volleyball Rebuild

Since winning the district volleyball title in 2017, Trigg County has won just 16 games in the four seasons since and hasn’t returned to the region tournament.

However, increased numbers in the program and some experienced newcomers have second-year coach Stephen Erdmann optimistic that Trigg County can add some wins to the 2021 total and continue its build to the future.

Trigg County lost three starters and a key reserve from last year’s 5-27 team. However, there are 28 players in the program from the middle school to the varsity. Erdmann was hoping to field a middle school team but the numbers didn’t cooperate. However, those players will see action alongside the junior varsity team.

At the varsity level, Ava Scheer is the lone senior on a squad that features more athleticism than in recent years.

Sophomore Ashlynn Koch and junior Grace White return at the hitter position with help from junior Lillian McKelvey, junior Jhade Vaughn, and junior Keagan Greenwood.

Junior Riley Brame, the school’s top hurdler on the track and field team, will give Trigg County some jumps at the net.

Junior Chloe McGraw, freshman Abigail Johnson, and junior Raven Ladd give the Lady Wildcats some specialists with experience.

The lack of year-round work and a feeder program has taken its toll on a program still looking for its first win at the region tournament as it enters its third decade.  However, the numbers are a positive for Erdmann who also hopes to continue the coaching stability.

Trigg County opened with a three-set loss to Hopkinsville Monday and will travel to Livingston Central Tuesday for a Fifth District contest.
