Harlee Davis (18) tallied a hat trick for Calloway County in their Class 2A sectional championship win.
Coming into Saturday’s Class 2A sectional championship, Trigg County knew it would need to capitalize on early scoring chances and keep Calloway County’s Harlee Davis scoreless.
They accomplished neither as Davis tallied a hat trick to lead the Lady Lakers to a 3-1 win over the Lady Wildcats and claim its second straight 2A sectional title.
Trigg County had its chances early with several crosses that didn’t connect and three shots that finished high in the first ten minutes.
Calloway County scored first in the 31st minute when Davis sent a shot toward the goal that deflected off a Trigg defender and past goalie Sarah Sink for a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Lakers took control of midfield after the slow start and outshot Trigg 9-6 in the first 40 minutes.
Four minutes into the second half, Davis snuck a corner kick in to put Calloway ahead 2-0.
Trigg County did not get the same early chances in the second half as they did in the first half. Calloway was continually quicker to the ball and created more chances, outshooting Trigg 12-5 in the final 40 minutes.
Both teams missed a chance to score on consecutive possessions in the 59th minute. Direct kicks off fouls out top failed to find their way into the goal and kept the score at 2-0.
Davis finished off the hat trick in the 75th minute when she took a cross from Josey McManus and found the left corner of the net. The goal was Davis’ ninth of the season and 28th of her Lady Laker career.

Trigg County avoided the shutout with 17 seconds left when Lania Hite took an Olivia Noffsinger direct kick, spun, and drilled the shot from out front.
Trigg County saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end while Calloway picked up its 11th win in 11 all-time meetings with the Lady Wildcats. Trigg (7-2) will host Hopkins County Central Thursday.
Calloway County (4-4) will play Hart County in a Class 2A semistate game.
