With a single goal providing the difference in the teams’ first meeting this season, Thursday’s match between the Trigg County Wildcats and hosts Webster County figured to be another close encounter. However, after a 0-0 stalemate in the 1st half, the Trojans erupted for five 2nd-half goals to hand the Wildcats a regular-season finale defeat.
Jacob McVay scored twice after the break to lead the way for the Trojans. Kevin Ramirez, Cade Howell, and Rodrigo Jimenez each added goal to round out the scoring, and Denny Rivas and Kevin Gonzalez-Rodriguez each provided an assist. Eli Stone made three saves to earn Webster’s first shutout of the season.
The Wildcats suffered their eighth consecutive loss to end the regular season at 2-17-1. On Tuesday, they will host Lyon County in the 5th-District championship game at Josh Nichols Field. Trigg has captured the trophy each of the last four seasons and eleven times in the previous twelve.
