The UHA Blazers used the momentum of a goal in the final ten seconds of the opening half to lead to a five goal second half as the Blazers ran past the Fort Campbell Falcons 7-0 Tuesday night in a semifinal round matchup in the 8th District boys soccer tournament. The Blazers now advance to the district championship game Thursday night at Fryar Stadium at Fort Campbell.
The Blazers took an early 1-0 lead when Preston Thomas broke clear on a run down the middle of the field and found the back of the net at the 14:20 mark.
The two teams would battle back and forth for much of the rest of the first half without either being able to find the net. Then with just seconds left in the opening half, Thomas scored his second goal of the night off an assist from Matthew Hauret to make it 2-0. The whistle to end the half blew immediately after the ball hit the back of the net.
The momentum of that score carried over to the beginning of the second half for UHA. Ethan Hale scored from the left side less than three minutes into the second half to make it 3-0. Hale scored again at the 49:30 mark to run the lead out to 4-0.
Preston Thomas came clear on another run at the 51:00 mark and scored his third goal of the night to make it 5-0. Matthew Hauret ended the blitz when he scored at the 54:00 to make it 6-0.
Ian Tyler would add a late goal for the Blazers on a penalty kick at the 76:00 to finish the scoring for the night.
The win, which was UHA’s fourth straight, improves the Blazers to 12-6 on the season.
The Falcons see their season end at 3-10.
UHA moves on to the 8th District title match Thursday night where they will take on the Hopkinsville Tigers.
