
Heritage Christian Academy went 2-2 and finished as runner-up of the KCAA Tip-Off Classic Saturday at Warrior Gym.
HCA’s two losses were to defending state champion Galilean, the preseason KCAA No. 1. HCA is the preseason No. 2 team.
Galilean took the championship game 57-51 over the Warriors. Jason Leek and Carlos Robles each scored 17 points to lead the Warriors with Robles adding nine rebounds.
Trevor Gibson contributed nine points and seven rebounds.
The difference proved to be the free throw line where Galilean was 13 of 24 while HCA hit just 7 of 15.
Heritage Christian was bumped to the consolation bracket with a 47-37 loss to Galilean in the semifinals. HCA connected on just 28-percent from the field (12 of 45) and was outrebounded 34-20.
Robles was the lone Warrior in double figures with 17 points. He added seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Leek scored seven points, and Trentin Fowler scored five points.
In the day’s opening game, HCA handed Bethel a 59-36 loss with Robles scoring 20 points and adding nine steals.
HCA led 30-16 at halftime and took full control with a 10-0 run to begin the second half. Bethel hung close thanks to hitting seven 3-pointers until another 10-0 run by the Warriors in the fourth quarter sealed the win.
Gibson joined Robles in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
Three players scored in double figures in HCA’s third game of the day – a 67-35 win over region rival Oak Ridge Christian.
Robles was again the top scorer for HCA with 21 points, including his 1,000th career point. Leek added 14 points, and Camden Higgins scored 10 points.
HCA is 3-2 – all in the KCAA. They will host Clarksville Christian Monday night at Warrior Gym.
