The Christian County Colonels have opened the season with two straight wins for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. The Colonels picked up their second win this season Saturday taking down Oldham County 74-69 in the BGO Classic at Lexington Christian.
Breland Morrison scored eight first-quarter points as Christian County took a 21-17 lead. Morrison added eight more in the second as the Colonels continued to hold the lead and took at 32-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
Coming out of the break, the Christian County offense got going and put up 24 points in the third quarter and extended the lead to 56-46 going into the final eight minutes of the game.
Oldham County would make a run to try and get back in the game in the final quarter. However, Derrell Bateman stepped up with a big final eight minutes and the Colonels were able to hold on for the five-point win.
Breland Morrison had a big night for the Colonels with 32 points. Derrell Bateman ended the game with 15 points, 10 of them coming in the final quarter as the Colonels were fending off the Oldham County rally. Jordan Miles added 10 points for Christian County.
Max Green led Oldham County with 31 points. David Drury added 16 points.
Christian County goes to 2-0 with the win. The Colonels are back in action Tuesday when they host Madisonville-North Hopkins.
