The Todd County Central Lady Rebels are now off to their best start since the 2011-2012 season. Behind another strong defensive effort Monday night, the Lady Rebels took down Butler County 53-36 in Elkton.
The 36 points marked the fifth straight game Todd Central has held their opponent under 50 points this season and the third time that they have held an opponent to less than 40 points.
The Lady Rebels came out Monday night and settled the issue early in the game. Todd Central jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter lead and was never seriously threatened for the rest of the night. Alexis Taylor and Abby Williams combined to score all 17 of the Lady Rebels’ points in the first eight minutes.
Todd Central continued to extend the lead in the second quarter. By the time the two teams went to the locker room at the break, the lead had grown to 33-14.
Butler County actually outscored the Lady Rebels by three points in the second half, but the deficit was too much for the Lady Bears to overcome with the way Todd Central’s defense was controlling the night.
A big night for Alexis Taylor. The Todd Central sophomore finished the game with 22 points. Abby Williams also hit double figures with 15 points. The duo outscored the Lady Bears by themselves. Jamaia Burks just missed double figures with 9 points.
Taylor Leach led Butler County with 11 points. Jenna Phelps added 10.
The Lady Rebels are now 5-0 on the season. They return to action Thursday night on the road at Glasgow. A win over the Lady Scotties would give the Lady Rebels their best start in at least 23 years, which is as far as the records at KHSAA.org go back.
