
Heritage Christian Academy welcomed back its alumni and former players Tuesday and then showed them a 47-40 victory on the hardwood over Legacy Christian Academy of Bowling Green.
The game was a back-and-forth throughout with neither team separated by more than five points in the first half.
Heritage led by as many as six points in the second half but saw Legacy whittle the Warrior lead to 40-38 with 2:11 left.
Inside the final minute, Carlos Robles found Manny Diaz underneath the basket for a bucket that pushed the HCA lead to 42-38. Landon Copass quickly answered for Legacy with a bucket of his own with 35 seconds left to make it a two-point game again.
On the next possession, an intentional foul was called on Legacy as Robles went in for a breakaway layup. He hit one of the two free throws and Trentin Fowler was fouled after the inbounds play. Heritage was 9-of-21 at the free throw line until Fowler knocked down both free throws to put HCA up 45-40 with 25 seconds left.
After a Legacy turnover, Jason Leek sealed the win with a layup.
Heritage turned up the defense in the second half, holding Legacy to four field goals in the second half and just one in the fourth quarter.
Leek led the Warriors with 11 points, while Fowler added eight. Camden Higgins gave HCA a boost off the bench with nine points. Carlos Robles scored eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Jeremiah Martin hit 10-of-15 free throws to finish with a game-high 17 points for Legacy, who dropped to 3-2 in region play and 5-2 in KCAA play.
Heritage Christian Academy remains unbeaten in both region and KCAA play at 5-0. The Warriors will play Dawson Springs Friday night in the All A Classic region semifinals at University Heights Academy.
