Lady Wildcats Make Just Enough Shots to Down UHA

1-30-mcgee-2

The Trigg County Lady Wildcats and University Heights Academy Lady Blazers were two teams needing a win in the worst way coming into Monday’s game at Wildcat Gym.

UHA held a four-point lead with a minute left but Trigg rallied for the 40-36 win to snap a season-long five-game losing streak.

Neither team shot the ball well during the contest, which was moved up an hour to avoid the impending winter weather mix that fell Monday evening. In the end, Trigg County made three-of-five shots and outscored UHA 11-4 in the final three minutes.

The Lady Blazers used an 11-0 run to grab a 33-29 lead with 2:51 left when Alicia Davis hit one of two free throws.

Olivia Noffsinger answered with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to one point with 2:27 left.

Davis scored the following four points for UHA to give her team a 36-32 lead with 40 seconds left. Kara Hyde drove the lane for Trigg County and scored with 40 seconds left to make it a two-point game.

Out of a Trigg timeout, UHA turned the ball over and Hyde buried a 3-pointer from the wing with 24 seconds left to put Trigg up by one point.

Trigg got the ball back after another Lady Blazer turnover and hit three of four free throws in the final 14 seconds to seal the win.

The Lady Blazers shot 38-percent from the field in the second half but 12 turnovers led to 12 Trigg points in the final 16 minutes.

Trigg County attempted a season-high 38 shots from behind the arc. They made just six. UHA hit 8-of-28 from 3-point range.

The 40 points were the fewest Trigg scored in a win since a 38-29 win over Murray in the second game of last season.

Olivia Noffsinger led Trigg County in scoring with 18 points while Kara Hyde scored 10 points and pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds.

Alicia Davis scored 23 points to lead UHA, while Amarya Bass scored three points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Trigg County is scheduled to host Livingston Central Tuesday, while UHA will host Hopkinsville Wednesday.
