
There are some potentially very challenging first-round matchups for the winners of the boys’ 2nd Region championship at this year’s Sweet 16. The draws for the state tournament took place Wednesday in Lexington.
In the Boys Sweet 16, the winner of the 2nd Region will play Thursday, March 16 against the winner of the 9th Region. The top 3 teams in the 9th Region, according to the latest RPI rankings are Covington Catholic, Covington Holy Cross, and Conner.
The top 3 teams in the latest 2nd Region RPI are Lyon County, University Heights and Henderson County.
It was Covington Catholic that ended Lyon County’s state tournament run last season with a two point win in the quarterfinals.
The Boys Sweet 16 will be played March 15 through March 18 at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
