In Crittenden County’s two regular season wins over the Lyon County Lady Lyons, Taylor Guess scored 40 and 38 points in decisive Lady Rocket wins.
In Monday’s district tournament opener at Livingston Central, the supporting cast assisted another strong stat line by the region player of the year in a 70-49 win over Lyon.
Crittenden County advanced to Thursday’s championship game to play Livingston Central, who beat Trigg County 42-26 in the other semifinal.
Guess scored 14 of Crittenden’s first 22 points to help set the early pace for the Lady Rockets. She finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds.
Senior Addie Hatfield came up big for Crittenden with 14 points and six rebounds, and Anna Boone added eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
The Lady Rockets used a 12-2 first quarter run to grab a 22-11 lead after the first frame. They extended the lead to 43-18 by halftime as Lyon County struggled to make shots. Lyon was 8-of-32 from the field in the first 16 minutes and hit just 2-of-11 at the free throw line.
Lyon County outscored Crittenden 31-27 in the second half but by then, the damage was done.
Crittenden owned the glass 45-32 and scored 18 points off 16 offensive rebounds.
Senior Ella Defew scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds in her final game as a Lady Lyon. Lilly Perry also scored nine points for Lyon, who suffered its worst district tourney loss in a decade.
