Lyons Roll Crittenden 11-1 for Third Straight Win

Make it three straight wins for the Lyon County Lyons. The Lyons broke open a tie game with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and rolled on to an 11-1 six-inning win over the Crittenden County Rockets Thursday evening. Two Lyon pitchers combined to limit the Rockets to only two hits in the game.

The Rockets got on the board in the top of the second inning. Crittenden County used four Lyon County walks to score the run and take a 1-0 lead after an inning and a half.

The Lyons came back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 when Peyton Williams led off the inning with a double and then scored on a wild pitch with two outs.

Lyon County took advantage of two big Crittenden County errors to score seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-1 lead. Big hits in the inning were RBI doubles from Austin Spears and Aiden Waters and an RBI single from Drew Richie.

The Lyons got things rolling again in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a hit batter and a walk to lead off the inning. Peyton Williams drove in a run with a double to make it 9-1. The Lyons would load the bases with one out, but Crittenden County hurler Asa McCord struck out the next two batters to get the Rockets out of the jam.

Lyon County (3-1) would then close out the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Brady Belt doubled in a run and then Aiden Waters sent everybody home with an RBI single to reach the ten-run rule.

Peyton Williams had a big evening at the plate, going 3-3 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Aiden Waters was 2-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a run scored. Austin Spears finished 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Seven different Lyons had a hit and seven different Lyons drove in a run.

John Bingham picked up the win in relief for the Lyons, going 4 1/3-innings, giving up no runs on one hit, striking out nine, and walking three. Drew Richie got the start, going 1 2/3-innings, giving up one run on one hit.

Evan Belt and Casey Cates had the only hits in the game for Crittenden County.

Crittenden County was their own worst enemy at times in the field. The Rockets were charged with three errors, leading to seven of the Lyon County runs being unearned.
