
The Caldwell County Lady Tigers were waiting for their bats to come alive this season.
On Thursday, Caldwell hit three home runs, recorded 12 base hits and used a seven-run fourth inning to turn back Murray 11-1 in six innings at Lady Tiger Field in Princeton.
Meanwhile, Alexis Wood shut down Murray’s hitters after allowing only an unearned run in the top of the first inning.
Wood fired a one-hitter, striking out nine and walking one in the contest.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Alicia Stanley homered to center to tie the game and kickstart a big frame for the Lady Tigers.
A two-run single to right by Laney Jones pushed Caldwell in front 3-1.
A.J. Hollowell tripled home two more runs to make it 5-1.
An RBI double by Brylee Butts and a sacrifice fly to center by Harper Holeman capped Caldwell’s seven-run inning.
Kenzie McConnell recorded her first career homer in the fifth inning. Her two-shot to center was part of a three-run inning that extended the margin to 10-1. Hollowell singled home another run in the inning.
Holeman then homered to center leading off the sixth inning to end the game early on the 10-run mercy rule.
Jones was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs for Caldwell while Hollowell went 2-for-4 and drove in three.
Wood was 2-for-3 with a double.
Sarah Cauley singled for Murray’s only hit.
Caldwell ended a four-game losing skid and is now 6-6.
Murray is 4-4.
Caldwell has won four of its last five matchups with Murray but Murray still leads the all-time series 11-6.
Caldwell’s girls will be in action again on Monday when they host Fort Campbell in the opening round of the 2nd Region All A Classic softball tournament.
