The University Heights Academy Blazers plated three runs in the top of the 9th inning as they claimed a 7-4 road win at Union County Thursday evening. The Braves had scored two runs in the 5th and two more in the 6th to force extra innings.
UHA jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Blazers loaded the bases to start the inning on an error, a walk, and an infield single. Josh Pace and Ryan Luckey drew back-to-back walks to put the Blazers up 2-0. The Blazers then added two more runs on a Union County error.
The Braves used a single and a sac fly to drive in two runs in the fifth, cutting the lead in half at 4-2. A hit batter and a walk set the stage for Union County to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Fielding miscue would end up being costly for the Braves. They were charged with four errors over the nine innings, allowing the Blazers to score three unearned runs.
Josh Pace ended up going 1-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Blazers. Jaiden Miles was 1-5 with three RBIs.
On the mound, Ryan Luckey picked up the win in relief, going four innings and giving up two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking two.
UHA improves to 13-6 with the win, which was the Blazers’ fifth in their last six games.
