The Trigg County Wildcats were very efficient with their offense Monday evening. The Wildcats scored in their first four at-bats on the way to a 9-6 road win at Hickman County. Trigg plated the nine runs on a total of seven hits.
The Wildcats also took advantage of a trio of Hickman miscues in the field. Those three errors allowed Trigg County to score three unearned runs in the game.
Trigg County got going right off the bus. The Wildcats plated three runs in the top of the first. The big hit in the inning was a two-run double from Chase Hampton. Aidon Butts scored later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
Hickman County would get all the runs back in the bottom half of the inning to even things up at 3-3.
After a one-out walk in the top of the second, Matthew Leeper sent one over the left field fence to push the Trigg lead out to 5-3. After an error and a walk in the top of the third, Chase Hampton scored on a sac fly to give the Wildcats a 6-3 lead. The lead grew again in the top of the 4th on an RBI single to move the margin out to 7-3.
The Falcons cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning when Eli Prince hit a two-run homer to left to make it a 7-5 game.
Trigg County regained momentum as they came to bat in the top of the sixth. After a pair of one-out singles and a two-out walk loaded the bases, Butts drove in two big runs with a single to right to give the Wildcats some padding at 9-5.
Hickman County scored once in the bottom of the inning to cut the margin to 9-6. The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but Butts induced a fly ball to center to end the game.
It was a big game for Leeper who was 2-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Butts finished 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Hampton was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Aaron Despain picked up the win, going four innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, striking out four, and walking three. Butts got the save. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs on three hits, striking out two, and walking none.
The Wildcats improve to 10-13 with the win.
