The boys’ tennis team at Fort Campbell would have liked a better day Tuesday at the 2nd Region tennis tournament, but it was still a solid effort from the young Falcon team. The Falcons picked up a win in singles play during the opening day of the boys’ regional.
Derrick Loar defeated Teerth Shah, of University Heights, in his opening match of the day. After a tough battle from Shah in the opening set, Loar was able to close things out with a strong second set, winning the match 7-6 (10-8), 6-1.
That win set Loar up to face Colton Browning of Hopkins Central in the quarterfinals. Browning played strong and eliminated Loar from the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Fort Campbell’s other singles entry, Guillermo Ortiz Gomez dropped his opening round match to Spencer Powell, of Hopkinsville, 6-3, 6-3.
The Falcons’ doubles entry of Joziah Jardiolin and Jesse McCumbers fell in their opening-round match. The pair battled but eventually fell 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 to the Madisonville pairing of Karson Starks and Noah Mays.
