
Caldwell County had one region champion and will send at least two entries to next week’s Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.
Freshman Cooper Mobley won the region title Monday in the shot put, and Timothy Nichols came in second place in the triple jump.
The top two finishers at the region automatically advance to the state meet, while the next ten best times/distances statewide also advance.
As a team, Caldwell County scored 36 points to finish in sixth place at Monday’s meet held at Calloway County High School.
FIELD EVENTS
Mobley won the region title in the shot put with a heave of 42-05.75. He also placed third in the discus throw (129-04). The freshman already owns the top seven shot throws in school history.
Daniel Laurent was seventh in the shot put (36-11.25) and sixth in the discus throw with a personal best of 122-02.
Timothy Nichols came in second place in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet. He also finished third in the long jump (18-11.50).
Jackson Risley finished sixth in the high jump (5-02).
Xvaier Lee was eighth in the long jump (17-01.50).
Brenton Springfield finished in eighth place in the triple jump (30-04.25).
SPRINTS
Xvaier Lee came in seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.34 seconds. Tre Copeland was 11th in 25.31.
Camarion Hall finished 11th in the 100-meter dash (13.79).
Jackson Risley came in 10th place in the 400-meter dash (59.35) and Hoayang Wu was 11th (1:04.75).
MIDDLE DISTANCE
Blake Bard came in eighth place in the 800-meter run (2:20.98) and Blake Lancaster (2:23.09) was ninth.
Blaine Hicks finished in ninth place in the 1600-meter run (5:30.32) and Trayton Freeman was 12th (5:42.51).
HURDLES
Brenton Springfield finished in 10th place in the 300-meter hurdles (1:00.80).
RELAYS
The 3200-meter relay team came in fifth place (9:40.15), running the third-fastest time in school history.
The 400-meter relay team was sixth (49.20).
The 1600-meter relay team came in sixth place (3:55.43).
