Hoptown Runners Finish 19th at State XC Meet (w/PHOTOS)

The Hopkinsville girls’ cross country team finished in 19th place at the KHSAA Class 2A state cross country meet in Lexington on Saturday.

As she has for most of the season, Lauren Mayes was the top runner for the Lady Tigers, finishing in 51st place in a time of 22:49 over the 3.1-mile course at the Kentucky Horse Park. It was the third trip to state for Mayes and her best finish. She was 168th as an eighth grader and 162nd last year.

Rebecca Wood came in 78th place in a time of 23:44. Like Mayes Wood was also making her third trip to state and came away with her best finish after a 132nd-place finish as a freshman and a 229th-place finish last year.

Freshman Kaydon Coats ran a 24:06 to finish in 89th place. Evelyn Bangart finished in 174th place in 27:06, and eighth grader Luanna Acree was 197th in 28:26.

Hopkinsville competed in Class 2A in cross country for the first time in 11 years after running in Class 3A.
