Traveling to take on a 1st Region opponent can be challenging enough on its own. Doing so without your starting point guard makes it that much more so. That was the position the Lyon County Lady Lyons found themselves in Friday evening as they dropped a 68-50 decision to the Calloway County Lady Lakers, Lyon County’s first loss of the season.
The Lady Lyons entered the game without starting point guard Piper Cotham, who was battling an injury. Cotham entered the night averaging 18 points a game after the first two games of the season.
Sayler Lowe got the Lady Lakers off to a good start in the contest. Lowe scored 12 points in the first quarter as Calloway County took a 21-14 lead. Lyon County was able to hang in the game in the first eight minutes thanks to some timely 3-point shooting. Trinity Taylor and Lexi Holland knocked down three long shots in the quarter.
The Lady Lyons however still had no answer for Lowe in the second quarter. Lowe added 7 point to her total as Calloway County extended the lead to 36-24 going into the half.

Despite Lyon County continuing to knock down threes as the second half got rolling, Calloway County was able to extend the lead in the third quarter. Sayler Lowe tossed in six more points in the quarter as the lead grew to 57-41 going into the final quarter.
While the Lady Laker offense idled down some in the fourth quarter, the lead was too much for the Lady Lyons to overcome over the final minutes of the game as Calloway County took the 18-point win.
Lexi Holland led Lyon County with 19 points, including three made 3-pointers. Courtney Collins had a big night with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Trinity Taylor just missed double-figures with nine points.

Sayler Lowe topped the scoring column for Calloway County with 27 points. Jaidan Koch ended the night with 20 points.
Lyon County (2-1) travels to Smithland Tuesday night for a 5th District battle against Livingston Central.
