Caldwell County got off to a good start Tuesday night in a rare matchup against Graves County.

The Tigers led the 1st Region school 14-10 late in the first quarter in Mayfield.

However, the homestanding Eagles came back in a big way, taking an 18-16 lead after one quarter, then building a 36-22 advantage at halftime.

Graves County (4-1) went on to post a 68-45 triumph while winning for the third-straight outing.

Lukas Pigg had 17 points to lead the Eagles while Briley VeuCasovic had 16 and Carson Carrico 10.

Caldwell (3-3) got 19 points from Jaydarius Wilson. Demaurius Thompson finished with 12 points.

It was just the fifth meeting ever between the Tigers and the Eagles. And just the second meeting in the last 34 years.

Caldwell and Graves last met in February of 2016 with the Eagles winning 78-46.

Before that, you have to go back to a Graves win in January of 1989.

The two teams met twice in the 1987-88 season. Graves won when the two teams met in Louisville in the LIT in December. But Caldwell won at Graves County, taking a 53-49 decision on Jan. 16, 1988 — the Tigers’ only win over the Eagles.

Caldwell is on the road again on Thursday when it visits Union County.
