Needing something to spark its offense on Tuesday, the Trigg County Wildcats turned to two things that have helped them reach the win column recently. Trigg’s pressure defense forced nine third quarter turnovers and Caleb Fogle’s outside shooting sparked a 61-44 win at Stewart County on Tuesday in Dover.

The Wildcats evened its season record at 9-9 and improved to 12-1 all-time against their southern neighbor.

Trigg County could not get the shots to fall from the outside early as it missed its first 12 three-point shots.

Because the shots weren’t falling, Trigg County was unable to jump into its press defense and fell behind 13-8 after one quarter.

The Wildcats began to drive the paint and get easy shots inside in the second quarter that helped them to a 26-22 halftime lead. Trigg hit 7 of 11 shots from the field and forced seven Stewart County turnovers.

In the third quarter, Trigg County ratcheted up the defense even more and forced nine more Rebels turnovers that led to six points. The result was a 14-0 run that saw Trigg extend its lead to 42-28.

Also part of that spurt was the play of Fogle off the bench. The junior guard hit all three of Trigg County’s three-pointers in the game and finished with a career-high 13 points.

In all, Trigg County got 17 points from its bench players.

Davaree Gude had 16 points but fouled out early in the fourth quarter. Jhaden Vaughn had 12 points and 12 rebounds but left the game late with an ankle injury and is expected to miss some time.

Stewart County, who lost to Livingston Central 72-37 on Monday, got 25 points and 12 rebounds from Hayden Wallace.

Trigg County won eight straight games in the series with Stewart County’s only win in the series coming in 1958.

Trigg County is 9-9 and will host Caldwell County as part of a homecoming doubleheader Thursday night at Wildcat Gym. Trigg County lost to Caldwell 62-51 back in December in Princeton.
