An early deficit was a bit too much for the Christian County Colonels to overcome in the first preseason baseball scrimmage Saturday. Apollo scored the first five runs of the game on the way to a 9-4 win in Owensboro.
The Eagles got the first four batter on base in the bottom of the third inning on the way to scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead.
Apollo added a run in the bottom of the fourth when Noah Cook drove one over the left-field fence to extend the lead to 5-0.
Christian County used an Apollo error to score a run in the top of the 5th. Apollo responded with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-1.
Bobby Irving’s RBI double trimmed the lead to 7-2 in the sixth, but once again the Eagles came back with two runs in the bottom half of the innng to make it 9-2.
Christian County took advantage of four walks in the top of the seventh to score two runs but that would be the end of the scoring for the game.
Gage Montes, Preston Phan, Bobby Irving, and Eddie Davis had one hit each for the Colonels.
Seven different Colonel pitchers saw one inning of work each on the mound.
