
With the girls’ Sweet 16 being played first this year at Rupp Arena, the 2nd Region tournament will get underway Monday night . This year’s tournament is being played at Trigg County High School with games set for Monday, March 4, Tuesday, March 5, Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9.
The pairings for the tournament were set during an online meeting of school officials Saturday morning.
Action will get underway Monday with 5-time defending region champ and 6th District champion Henderson County (22-7) battling 5th District runner-up Crittenden County (19-13) at 6:00pm. The last meeting between the two teams came in last season’s regional championship game with Henderson County taking the title with a 71-53 win.
Monday night’s second game will have 7th District champion Madisonville-North Hopkins (16-12) taking on 8th District runner-up Christian County (17-9). The two teams played December 5 at Christian County with the Lady Maroons taking a tough 56-51 win.
Quarterfinal play resumes Tuesday night with 8th District champion Hopkinsville (11-9) facing 6th District runner-up Union County (14-13) in the 6:00pm game. The teams did not play this season. The last meeting was in December 2022 with the Bravettes rolling to a 30-point win.
The quarterfinal round will conclude Tuesday night with 5th District champion Lyon County (21-9) squaring off against 7th District runner-up Hopkins County Central (18-14). The two met late in the regular season in Mortons Gap with the Lady Storm pulling away late to take a 55-46 win. That is the only loss in the last eight games for the Lady Lyons.
Semifinals will be played at 6:00 and 7:30 Friday night, with the championship game next Saturday night at 7:00 at Trigg County High School.
Tickets for the tournament will be 10-dollars per night, cash only.
The winner of the girls 2nd Region tournament will move on to play in the girls’ Sweet 16 Thursday, March 14 at 1:30pm Eastern time in Rupp Arena against the winner of the 3rd Region.
