Heritage Christian Academy is mourning the loss of a former head coach of the Warrior basketball team. According to a post on the school’s athletic department’s Facebook page, Gerald Bennett passed away Saturday.

Bennett had a 76-36 record during his four years as head coach of the Warriors and coached them to a Kentucky Christian Athletic Association State Tournament runner-up finish in 2006.

Bennett resigned as head coach back in July of 2008 citing health concerns as the primary reason for his departure from the program.

He became head coach of the Hopkinsville girls’ basketball team before the 2012-13 season and guided the Lady Tigers for three years, posting a 37-47 record. He also served as an assistant coach at Hoptown for several seasons.
