It happened not once, not twice, but three times for the Christian County Lady Colonels Saturday. Christian County was involved in three one-run games as they took part in the Greenwood Border Battle in Bowling Green.
The first game of the day saw the Lady Colonels take the early lead only to see Warren East score two runs late in the game to take the 2-1 win.
Christian County got on the board in the top of the first. Gracie Harned singled with one our. Her courtesy runner, Jada Miller, then scored on a double from Chloe Almy to take the 1-0 lead. But that would be all that Warren East freshman Autumn Brooks would give up in the circle for the Lady Raiders.
Brooks went 7 innings and held the Lady Colonels to just four hits on the day and struck out ten.
A Christian County error with two outs in the bottom of the 5th allowed the Lady Raiders to score two runs and that was the difference in the game.
Gracie Harned went 2-2 at the plate to lead the Lady Colonels. She was on in the circle as well, going 7 innings, giving up 2 runs, neither of them earned, on seven hits, striking out seven and walking none.
The second game of the day, against the Greenwood Lady Gators, saw Christian County fall behind and then nearly pull it out late.
Greenwood took a 5-0 lead after two innings and it looked like the Lady Colonels were in trouble. The lead was 7-1 going into the fifth inning, and then the Lady Colonels made their charge.
Jazzy Tejada got things started with a two-run homer to center to cut the lead to 7-3. Five of the next six Christian County batters to come to the plate reached base as the Lady Colonels pushed across three more runs to cut the lead to one at 7-6. Jada Miller and Gracie Harned had timely hits during the rally.
Christian County had one more chance to get to the lead in the top of the seventh. A one-out single and a two-out walk put the tying run in scoring position. However, Greenwood pitcher Anna Rose Martin got Gracie Harned to pop up to end the game.
The Lady Colonels outhit Greenwood 12 to 10 but four fielding errors turned out to be costly in the loss.
Jayda Turner was 3-4 with two runs scored. Jazzy Tejada ended up 2-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and a run scored. Gracie Harned was 2-5 with an RBI.
Jordan Turner went all seven innings in the circle for Christian County. She gave up 7 runs, but only 4 of them were earned, on ten hits. She struck out three and walked four.
After two close losses to start the day, it was a case of why change anything now in the finale, except this time it went it favor of the Lady Colonels as they took a 2-1 win over Franklin-Simpson. The win for Christian County avenges a 7-5 loss to the Lady Wildcats two weeks ago.
The Lady Wildcats scored in the top of the first on an outfield error with two outs and took an early 1-0 lead.
Christian County evened things up in the bottom of the third when Gracie Harned singled to right. The Franklin-Simpson outfielder misplayed the ball and that allowed Avery Adcock to score the run that tied the game at 1-1.
It was Adcock who later put Christian County in the lead at 2-1 with a triple in the bottom of the fifth. That hit drove in Jada Miller, who had singled with one out.
From there, Gracie Harned kept the Lady Wildcat bats in check as the Lady Colonels took the one-run win. Harned was big time in the circle for Christian County, going seven innings and giving up just one unearned run on four hits, striking out eleven, and walking only one.
Avery Adcock led the offense for Christian County, going 2-3 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Chloe Almy was 1-2 with a double.
With the results of the day, Christian County goes to 13-11 on the year. The Lady Colonels are set to be back in action Monday when they host Lyon County.
