Seventh-grader Brinley Stephens drove in a total of three runs on a pair of first-inning hits Tuesday and helped her Hopkins County Central High School softball team to an 18-0 defeat of visiting Hopkinsville on Tuesday in Mortons Gap.
Stephens went 2-for-2 with two runs and a team-best four RBI. She was one of three players to record three RBI or more. The Storm (8-18) have now won three straight games after dropping 10 in a row from April 8 to April 20.
HCCHS scored eight runs in the first inning and 10 more in the second to take control. Kylee Satterfield’s two-run triple was one of the highlights. Rebekah Payne and Jesslyn Trejo reached after consecutive walks to start the top of the third inning, but a strikeout and double play ended the run-shortened affair.
Emily Ballard (5-8) walked two and struck out six in a three-inning no-hitter for Hopkins Central. She faced 11 Hoptown batters and threw strikes on 29 of 43 pitches. One of three base runners came on a dropped third strike in the bottom of the first inning.
Olivia Luttrull (0-11) walked 10 and allowed 18 runs in 1 1/3 innings. Elizabeth Smith walked two but allowed no hits during the final 2/3 innings in relief. Continuing to find its first victory of the 2024 season, Hoptown (0-13) will play again at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Calloway County.
