Channing Puckett and Drew Stevens combined on a three-hit shutout as the Caldwell County baseball team continued its strong season.

The Tigers put up three runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Trigg County 4-0 Thursday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

The win improved the Tigers to 21-6 this season.

Puckett (4-1) went the first four innings on the hill for Caldwell, allowing just one base hit while striking out five, to pick up the win.

Stevens pitched the final three innings. He allowed two base hits and fanned four while earning a save for the Tigers, who were playing their first game in nine days.

Trigg starter Aidon Butts also pitched well. In five innings, he allowed just two earned runs on four base hits and struck out five.

A pair of Wildcat errors helped Caldwell take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Carter Whittington doubled to start the inning and Luke Parker reached on an infield single. Whittington came in when the throw to first on Parker’s grounder got away.

Collin Whittington was hit by a pitch with one out. He and Parker both came in later when Westin King reached on an error to make it a 3-0 ballgame.

The only other run in the contest came in the fifth inning. Carter Whittington walked with one out and came in to score when Ari Wells doubled to the fence in right with two outs.

Meanwhile, Trigg (7-14) put two runners on base in each of the first, third and fifth innings, but only got one baserunner at far as third. The Wildcats left seven men on base in the contest.

Wells was the only hitter in the contest with more than one base hit, going 2-for-3.

For Trigg, James Garnett had a double while Bugs and Aaden Allen each singled.

Caldwell has taken 10 straight from the Wildcats.

The Tigers now lead the all-time series 64-22-1.

Caldwell will host Calloway County on Friday for Senior Day.
