One half of a region championship rematch is in place following day two of the boys’ Second Region Tennis Tournament on Wednesday at Hopkinsville’s Ruff Park.
Caldwell County senior Ryan Hammett is looking for a three-peat as singles champion and moved into Thursday’s 1:00 championship match.
Hammett, the tourney’s top seed, moved into the title match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rudra Patel of University Heights Academy. In the semifinals, Hammett defeated four seed Jaxton Duncan of Henderson County 6-3, 6-1.
Hammett will either face Madisonville’s Ethan Larkin, the three seed, or Mason Bridgeman of Hopkins County Central, the two seed. They will meet in an 11:00 semifinal. A win by Bridgeman sets up a rematch of last year’s championship, won by Hammett in three sets.
A win by Hammett would be Caldwell County’s fifth singles title in seven years.
