Christian County’s Satona Bailey became the first Christian County Colonel to run a sub-11 second 100-meter dash earlier this month at Muhlenberg County.
At Tuesday’s Class 3A Region 1 Meet at Marshall County, Bailey did it a second time. His 10.97 clocking was good for third place in a close race at the line. McCracken County’s James Barragan nipped Daviess County’s Connor White by one-hundredths of a second at 10.84 seconds.
Bailey’s time was the tenth-fastest run in the state at the Class 3A level. He’ll get a chance to run against the state’s best at next week’s state meet in Lexington in a pair of events.
He also finished in third place in the 200 meters in 22.71 seconds – the third fastest in school history.
Christopher McCarley also qualified for the state meet with a third-place finish in the discus throw. His toss of 144 feet, 10 inches was a school record, besting Terrance Sowerby’s old mark of 141-5 set nine years ago.
McCarley also finished fifth in the shot put at 43-3, missing a state meet berth by six inches.
