The Lyon County Lyons took to the pitch for the first of their two preseason scrimmages Tuesday evening. The Lyons made the trip to Russellville to take on the Panthers and dropped an 8-0 decision..
For just over 20 minutes, the two teams went back-and-forth, battling to a 0-0 tie. But then the bottom fell out of the proverbial bucket for the Lyons.
Russellville scored its first goal of the night around the 25-minute mark. The Panthers would score four more times over the final 15 minutes of the half to take a 5-0 lead into the break.
The Panthers would score three more times over the first 20 minutes of the second half, ending the match due to the newly enacted 8-goal rule.
Lyon County goalie Cayden Webber had 5 saves in the opening half and added two more in the second half of play.
The Lyons are set to host Logan County Saturday evening in their final preseason scrimmage before opening the season August 15 at Todd County Central.
