Leading 2-0 on Monday against visiting Christian County, the Madisonville-North Hopkins volleyball team appeared to be heading for a straight-set victory. However, the Lady Colonels had other ideas, rallying to force a fifth set where the Lady Maroons held on for a two-point victory.
Madisonville took the opening set 25-19 and cruised in the second 25-14 before Christian County answered with a nine-point win in the third and tied the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth. The Lady Maroons prevailed with a hard-fought 16-14 victory in the tiebreaker to snap a four-match skid and improve to 2-5.
Kiera Williams filled the stat sheet for the Lady Maroons with 19 assists, seven digs, three aces, and three kills. Leah Moody also had a big night with 11 kills, 12 digs, two aces, and a pair of assists. Mackenzie Stoltz finished with six kills, 12 digs, and two aces, Katie Beth Sutton had 14 digs, and Avery Rudd had nine.
The Lady Maroons are off for a week until they travel to Hopkinsville to face Heritage Christian Academy on September 3.
Christian County slipped to 1-3 and will host Graves County on Tuesday.
