After suffering their first loss of the season last time out against Franklin-Simpson, the Todd County Central Rebels bounced back in a big way with a 9-1 victory over hosts Russellville on Tuesday.
The Rebels got started on their second district win with a header by Tanner Henderson off a cross from John Ross Cardwell inside the opening four minutes.
In the 24th minute, Todd Central doubled the advantage after Chris Salazar scored from 25 yards out before Salazar played a ball over the top of the Russellville defense that Henderson headed past the goalkeeper for a 3-0 score. With five minutes left in the half, Alex Figueroa added a fourth when he came off the bench to score from close range.
Russellville closed the half with a goal to cut the margin to three when Charles Graves finished off an assist from Riley Hatfield.
Cardwell took his season total to nine with a goal inside the first five minutes of the second half, followed by a Samuel Perez-Camillo strike after Henderson cut the ball across the middle from the end line. Figueroa’s second goal made it 6-1 and Perez-Camillo added his second after he cleaned up a deflected shot by Carson Caricilio.
With 13 minutes remaining, Salazar sent everyone home when he curled in a corner kick to give the Rebels a sixth-straight win over the Panthers.
Henderson finished with two goals and a pair of assists, Salazar and Perez-Camillo each scored twice and added an assist, Figueroa netted twice, and Cardwell scored a goal and assisted on another. John Mark Campbell made five saves for the Rebels.
