The Hoptown Hoppers have turned to the Lone Star State for their next head coach. The club announced over the weekend that Andrew Hernandez, pitching coach at Wharton County Junior College will be the team’s head coach for the 2025 baseball season.

Hoppers General Manager Danny Roberts noted that Hernandez had a great reference from former Hopper coach Trey Porras, who is the head coach at Wharton County Junior College.

Hernandez, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, played college baseball at Texas A&M International University in 2019. He then transferred to Wharton County Junior College. He then finished his playing career at Texas A&M Kingsville and went straight into coaching, getting started with the Texas Twelve Organization.

In the fall of 2023, he was hired as the Assistant pitching coach at Wharton County Junior College. He was recently promoted to pitching coach.
