Heritage Christian wrapped up the first week of the season over the weekend with a trip to the KCAC state tournament. The Warriors dropped a pair of games at the event, falling to Whitefield Academy and Cornerstone Christian.
Against Whitefield Academy, the Warriors fell behind early and could never get back on track. Whitefield took a 22-12 lead after the opening quarter. The Warriors cut into the lead in the second quarter and trailed just 34-28 going into the second half.
The Warriors were still in the game after the third quarter, trailing 49-41. However, things did not go HCA’s way over the final eight minutes of the game. The Warriors were limited to a Jason Leek field goal in the final quarter as Whitefield pulled away to the 62-43 win.
Jason Leek led the Warriors with 28 points. Ethan Miles added 9 points.
In the loss to Cornerstone Christian, Heritage got a hot shooting game from deep from Nathan Wheatcraft and its usual effort from Jason Leek but Cornerstone got an early lead and then held the Warriors at arm’s length to take a 63-57 win.
Cornerstone led 19-14 after one, 33-28 at the half, and then 46-40 after three. The Warriors were right there with Cornerstone throughout the game but could just not quite get over the hill.
Jason Leek finished with 26 points. Nathan Wheatcraft hit five shots from behind the arc and finished with 17 points.
Heritage Christian (0-3) gets back to action Tuesday night hosting Clarksville Christian.
